Her main sport from age 9 was horse riding – that was her passion. She grew up in a council house with a field behind her house and helped to muck our and give water to the horses. The stables owner gave her a horse to look after. Sadly it was stolen and this had a big impact on her life and although she was training in karate she started to take it more seriously. Her skills in a martial art saved her when she was attacked as a young women and she used it as a form of self-defence. Being competitive her aim quickly became to go through the ranks to get the black belt then she started to compete on a internationally. She is married to Geoff Thompson who is a 5 x Karate Champion who at the age of 63 trained to compete at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Their 2 sons are successful sports people and their daughter a lead role in the Lion King Musical.
