Sharon Andrews

Commonwealth Games 1990 shot put and discuss athlete. With the longest throw in discuss being 56.24 she is ranked in the Women’s Outdoor events as a UK TOP PERFORMER in 1992, 1923 and 1994.

Started at secondary school encouraged by her P.E teacher. She claims that she wasn’t very good at sport but loved every single sport including netball, hockey, football and cross country. One of 7 girls her mother wanted her to be more academic and as a nurse didn’t have much time for athletics. However, seeing her potential her P.E. teacher took her to Essex Ladies in Woodford where she was coached by Norman Painter? Having been ranked on the athletics tables she then had to decide on what sport she should focus on. Investing in special discuss shoes and transport was costly and it was actually the school and sponsorship that helped her out. On retiring Sharon gave back and is now a teacher in a secondary school.
